The Columbus High School Class of 1953 held their 70th reunion on May 13 at the Phoenix Event Center, 1626 CR 218, Weimar. The 1953 graduating class had 49 students with 14 members still surviving.

The 1953 graduating class was the first class to graduate from Columbus High School 12 years of classes, according to a release. Euguene Schobel was class valedictorian and Esther Faye Schindler Hodde was salutatorian.

The class has held their reunions every two or three years. Former Head Football Coach and Civics Teacher Bill Hartley, who later became Columbus Elementary School principal, and Barbara Hartley have attended each reunion until Bill passed away.

The class said they enjoy seeing each other and now some have their children as their drivers to attend along with them. While the class members say they are continuing to age and become few, they are looking forward to holding their reunion again next year.
