COLUMBUS – A spirited debate on the effects of an emergency service district to taxpayers and local volunteer fire departments took place at the CVFD’s Oct. 2 town hall meeting.

Those hoping to vote in the Nov. 7 amendments elections have a limited time to register to vote as the voter registration deadline nears. The final day to register to vote and have a say in the upcoming amendments elections is Tuesday, Oct. 10. Early voting begins Oct. 23 and ends on Nov. 3 according to the Texas Secretary of State’s office. Voters will decide on 14 potential amendments including measures to increase the homestead exemption from $40,000 to $100,000, with homeowners 65 and older getting an additional $40,000 exemption as well as other property tax related bills.
