EAGLE LAKE — The city got its town square area ready for the holiday season with an official Christmas tree lighting on Dec. 1. With several city officials and leaders present, the event featured hot dogs, snacks and a short speech by Mayor Tim Kelley before the official lighting.

Kelley gave the history of Christmas trees in holiday lore in front a crowd of Eagle Lake residents enjoying the festivities. Following the short speech, children in attendance had the opportunity to take pictures with Santa near the official city Christmas tree.

Along with the tree, several string lights were hung around the downtown area as the city continued its initiative to include unique city beautification initiatives. The holidays served as an ideal period for initial changes.

The holiday celebration will continue in Eagle Lake as the town prepares for the “Parade of Lights” on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 6:45 p.m. Santa will be present at the parade and available for pictures following the parade.

Mayor Tim Kelley addressed the crowd prior to lighting the city Christmas tree with a story of the origins of Christmas trees for the holidays.
