Weimar FFA members competed at the Texas FFA State Leadership Development Events on the campus of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville on Dec. 1 to Dec. 2.
Students earn the opportunity to compete in the State LDEs by placing 1st or 2nd at one of the 12 Area FFA Association LDE Competitions. This year, sixteen Weimar FFA members qualified to compete against elite FFA programs of all classifications (1A6A) from across the state in three different events.
The Greenhand Quiz team won the State Championship by defeating 23 other teams who qualified for the State LDEs. In this event, students take an exam consisting of 100 questions over parliamentary procedure and FFA knowledge including history, facts, business structure, leadership and programs.
Out of the 96 students competing, Ruby Alamilla placed 1st individually, Collin Morrison in 2nd, Hunter Shupak in 5th, and Cullen Schimcek in 8th. Other team members include Madelyn Rerich, Fernando Gonzalez, Kim Rubio and Ashlyn Villanueva. These students will compete in the National Quiz Contest next October in Indianapolis.
Weimar was also represented by Kelly McAfee in the Job Interview LDE. Kelly placed 9th at the state event, securing a coveted Top 10 placing at the State Finals for the second consecutive year. Seven Weimar FFA members qualified to compete in the Senior Quiz. These students were tested on their knowledge of the FFA organization and parliamentary procedure. Team members included: Bralen Heger, Delaney Turlington, Erica Billeck, Zowie Lee, Hunter Simon, Natalie Ohnheiser and Aubrey Breska.
