Gov. Abbott, HHSC announce final extension of emergency SNAP benefits

AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today announced the Texas Health and Human Services Commission is providing more than $345.9 million in emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program food benefits for the month of February as the final extension of benefits. Congress recently passed legislation to establish February 2023 as the last month eligible households can receive emergency SNAP benefits. The allotments are expected to help about 1.6 million Texas households.

Valentine sends cards all over the country Leave it to Texas to have its own Valentine. It’s the busiest week of the year in this small town of Valentine in Jeff Davis County. Back near 1882, when a railroad crew of the Southern Pacific Railroad finished laying tracks from Van Horn east on Feb. 14, it is said that they decided to name the spot “Valentine, Texas.” It’s located on highway 90 and remains small with under 200 people.
