The Rice Lady Raiders volleyball team took a tough loss to Tidehaven but then turned around and secured their second district win of the season.

The Lady Raiders have been experiencing a lot of growing pains this season and their hard work paid off in the form of a gritty district win.

@ Tidehaven, L, 3-1 (13 25, 21-25, 25-10, 18-25) The Lady Raiders started the week traveling to Tidehaven for their first of two district matchups for the week.

The Lady Raiders started the match firing on all cylinders and showed even though they might not have the best record they are going to battle in every game. The Lady Raiders lost the first set but there was a feeling of a rally coming from their bench.

The Lady Raiders started the second set quick and took the early lead to put Tidehaven on their heels a little bit. This prompted a response from Tidehaven but the Lady Raiders were ready for it.

Tidehaven ended up making a few more plays than the Lady Raiders and winning the second set but they were ready to respond. Smelling blood in the water the Lady Raiders attacked and took the game to Tidehaven in the third set.

Defensively the Lady Raiders were a wall in the third set shutting down Tidehaven and limiting them to only 10 points in the set. Tidehaven responded by winning the fourth set and the match, but the Lady Raiders were feeling good despite the loss.

Winning the third set the feeling of confidence radiated from the Lady Raiders teeing them up for a big game against Hallettsville on Friday, Oct. 20 on their home court.

Vs. Hallettsville, W, 3-2 (12-25, 14-25, 26-24, 25 26, 15-9) After falling behind two sets to zero in Friday’s match the Lady Raiders looked to their Tuesday game for inspiration and found a way to rally and reverse sweep Hallettsville.

The Lady Raiders showed just how gritty they are and how good they can be in the future. This season was full of tough lessons for the young team, but they were able to rally together and apply all those lessons to this match and come away with a win.

In the third set, the Lady Raiders gutted out the win by just never backing down and not giving up on themselves. They pushed Hallettsville to the edge and finished off the set effectively, giving them even more confidence.

The fourth and fifth set saw the Lady Raiders just feed off of that confidence keeping Hallettsville to 16 and nine points respectively in those sets while the offense took over and sent Hallettsville packing.

The Lady Raiders unfortunately will not be making the playoffs this season but will have one last ride on Tuesday, Oct. 24, when they travel to Edna for their last regular season game.
