Clara Louise Botard, 92, of Sheridan, Texas, passed away on Feb. 23, 2023, in Columbus, Texas.
Edward Herbert Gold, 70, of Garwood, peacefully passed away at his home on Feb. 25, 2023, after a recent cancer diagnosis. He was born on July 22, 1952 to the late Albert and Agatha Leopold Gold. Ed reluctantly retired from farming on Feb. 25, 2023. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3371 and St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He also served on the board for the American Rice Growers Association of Garwood and the Colorado County Appraisal District Board.
Jean Elizabeth Toland, 64, of Boerne, Texas, passed away, Feb. 16, 2023. She was born in Long Branch, New Jersey, on Dec. 21, 1958, to John and Betty Linden. Her family moved to Houston in 1971.
Sharon Ann Meyer, 80, of Austin, Texas, passed away on Feb. 26, 2023, in Austin, Texas.
My name is Angelika Munoz, and I am currently a cadet private at Texas ChalleNGe Academy. I heard about the program from my mother. She and my father told me that they wanted nothing but the best for me, but at first, I wasn’t sure if TCA was the right choice or what was best for me.
AUSTIN – On Feb. 16, Rep. Stan Kitzman attended Gov. Greg Abbott’s State of the State address that outlined his goals and emergency priorities for the 88th Legislative Session. Kitzman is serving his first term in Austin proudly representing House District 85.

Gwendolyn R. Knight was born Sept. 12, 1952 in Weimar, Texas to Shephard Ward and Ethel Stevenson Ward. Her mother was a Weimar native, but Knight has spent all of her life in Altair, Texas.

Cleveland Gi lcrease was born Nov. 19, 1934 in Columbus, Texas and passed away on Feb. 11, 2023, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was 88 years old. He was the youngest child of Herbert R. Gilcrease and Alene A. Gilcrease. Cleveland grew up with one sister (Dorothy) and two brothers (Herbert Jack and Sammie). Cleveland’s parents and siblings have preceded him in death.
NACOGDOCHES – Stephen F. Austin State University recognized the outstanding academic achievements of a select number of students by naming 1,500 to the Dean’s List for fall 2022. To qualify for the Dean’s List at SFA, students must have earned a semester GPA over 3.5 in 12 or more semester hours as a full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate student.
