On Thursday, October 5, Eagle Lake Noon Lions Club welcomed historian Dr. Sandra Thomas and Jerry Sims, General Manager of Eagle Lake Rod and Gun Club. Sims spoke briefly about the handsome decoy ducks he creates, while Dr. Thomas spoke on a piece of interesting history with “Eagle Lake: Sugar City” The sugar industry, which began in Texas before the start of the Civil War in 1861, was revived in the late 1880s in the Colorado River basin near Eagle Lake. 10/11/2023 12:00 AM

COLLEGE STATION – USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) reminds drought impacted producers that they may be eligible for financial assistance through the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees, and Farm-Raised Fish Program (ELAP), Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP) Emergency Conservation Program (ECP) and Emergency Haying and Grazing on Conservation Reserve Program to provide financial assistance to eligible producers for 2023 grazing losses due to a qualifying drought or fire and provide water for impacted livestock. 10/11/2023 12:00 AM

Those hoping to vote in the Nov. 7 amendments elections have a limited time to register to vote as the voter registration deadline nears. The final day to register to vote and have a say in the upcoming amendments elections is Tuesday, Oct. 10. Early voting begins Oct. 23 and ends on Nov. 3 according to the Texas Secretary of State’s office. Voters will decide on 14 potential amendments including measures to increase the homestead exemption from $40,000 to $100,000, with homeowners 65 and older getting an additional $40,000 exemption as well as other property tax related bills. 10/04/2023 12:00 AM
