COLUMBUS – The Columbus Elementary School’s Parent/Teacher Organization benefitted from the donations of Dollar General after the corporation delivered a $4 thousand grant to aid the school with supplies.

At St. Michael Catholic School in Weimar, the third grade won the Spirit Stick for most-spirited class during the first school pep rally. The upcoming F.I.R.S.T. Class Education Awards hosted by the Diocese of Victoria Office of Catholic Schools will award teachers for providing outstanding, quality education and faith formation to their students. F.I.R.S.T. stands for faith, integrity, respect, scholarship and tradition. SAS nominees for the Elementary level award are Sharon Hajovsky and Jennifer Busselman.

COLUMBUS – September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and the Wellness Council of Greater Colorado Valley is offering plenty of ways to help.

EAGLE LAKE – One charitable foundation has taken it upon themselves to look after the county’s elderly as the Restoring Love, Faith and Hope Back to our Elderly ministry has led a campaign of altruism for senior citizen communities in the area. The most recent community to benefit was the Arbor Hills Rehabilitation Center as the ministry led the location’s first-ever Adopt-A-Grandparent event on Sept. 11.

Democracy is most effective when all eligible voters cast their votes. Whether voters vote in person or submit absentee or mail-in ballots, the importance of voting cannot be understated.

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Boys and Girls Club has plenty to offer local youth, from after- school programs to learning about science, technology, engineering and math, officials said.

COLUMBUS – The 45th annual Colorado County Fair is holding its children and youth pageants 6 p.m. Sept. 7 at Founders Hall.

COLUMBUS – The call is going out for entries in the 45th annual Colorado County Fair Parade on Sept. 16.

“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 3:14-15) St. Anthony School was back in session on Aug 9, with the SAS cheerleaders greeting students as they left the lazy days of summer behind and began the ‘2023- ‘2024 school year. Returning students and staff welcomed new students and staff in hopes of kicking off a new year of learning, faith and friendship.

The Weimar High School FFA branch has officially announced this year’s group of officers that will be leading the organization for the 2023-2024 school year. Each of the students recognized as officers exemplified the values of FFA and showed desire in furthering the program with their own individual success as well as looking to enhance their peers as well.

• Club Schedule – Club hours are Monday through Thursdays from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., and 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Fridays, available to all youth ages 6-18.

The Eula and David Wintermann Library in Eagle Lake had another very successful Summer Reading Program. The theme for the program was,“All Together Now”. Programs were held each Wednesday morning at 10:30am from June 7 to July 19. There were 56 students enrolled, books and certificates were given to 29 of those students who achieved the goals set for the program. Funding for the summer program was provided by a Dollar General Grant.

On Thursday, Aug 17, 2023, Eagle Lake Noon Lions Club member Sam Kana introduced the program guest speaker Jamy Dingler, Volunteer Coordinator for Rice High School All-Sports Booster Club. Jamy is a 1993 graduate of Rice High School, where her son now attends. Jamy highlighted two goals of the Booster Club: First: To raise enough funding to award a scholarship to students participating in at least 3 sports each year during the four years of High School plus completing the service work required. The club gives an average of $8,000 per year in scholarships. Second: To give back to the Athletic programs at Rice tangible things such as equipment that will benefit more than one sport.
