The teacher for sixth and eighth grade at Columbus Junior High, Amanda Opperman, recently received a grant from the Columbus Education Foundation to take her students on a field trip to Nasa Space Station.

The grant will cover the cost of the trip which is not in the budget allotted. Opperman expressed her elation to receive the grant “I’m so excited to receive the CEF grant,” Opperman said, “I have always wanted to take my students on a field trip to Space Center Houston. The students are going to have an opportunity to experience and discover really cool science, math, technology, and engineering through NASA. Some students may never get an opportunity like this again.”

One of the missions of CEF is to provide the extra classroom funding for students to experience opportunities such as this to expand their learning development in different ways.

CEF strives to provide supplemental resources for educational endeavors which encourages academic excellence as well as fulfillment of academic potential within CISD and in postsecondary education.
