Students and staff at St. Anthony Catholic School are recovering from last week’s Catholic Schools Week activities.

Lutheran Churches of the Tri-County Cooperative Ministries, ELCA begin the Lenten Journey with Ash Wednesday Communion Services on Feb. 14. This year’s theme is the invitation of Jesus, “COME TO ME.” We come confessing our sins, seeking God’s healing, seeking guidance, looking to be fed, longing to belong, hoping to discover our purpose, and finding God as a source of strength in all our struggles.

This Lent, God’s Embrace Ministries will be offering a Weekend Retreat on March 1 through March 3 at Cathedral Oaks Retreat Center at 1225 County Road 248 in Weimar.

If it were not for decisions, my life would be perfect. After all these years, I still wrestle with decision-making. I admit that I often don’t make good decision.

LA GRANGE – The Rural Nonprofit Networking Group is excited to invite all nonprofit staff and volunteers to join their next gathering which will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Community Hospital is offering an opportunity for residents to take care of their heart health during American Heart Month by providing free screenings for cholesterol and A1C at the Wellness Center from Feb. 13 to Feb. 15.

Random Acts of Kindness week begins the week of Feb. 11, pushing to add more kindness in the world.

COLLEGE STATION – With three consecutive years of severe weather conditions throughout Texas, including extended hard freezes and droughts, East Texas trees have become vulnerable to secondary threats. These threats include cedar bark beetles, Ips engraver beetles, Hypoxylon Canker disease and cedar rust fungi.

LA GRANGE – Wednesday morning’s flooding on Jan. 24 did not deter the members of the Colorado Valley Quilt Guild from attending the “Improv” Workshop with Michelle Lavender. Michelle is from HollyDee Quilts in Luling, Tx. She showed the many ways to transform scraps into quilts, using a “Wonky” cut and an open mind. Her unique way of cutting and piecing was intriguing to each of the members present.

The Jan. 25 meeting of the Eagle Lake Noon Lions featured Club Secretary Charles Abel recognizing the volunteers who give their time and talents to serve the community at the two Eagle Lake Ministerial Alliance Food Pantries.

SCHULENBURG – The Stanzel Family Foundation continues its commitment to fostering community well-being by providing support to the Colorado County Habitat for Humanity. The grant will specifically aid the organization’s critical home repair program in Weimar, addressing the urgent needs of individuals and families in the community.

Daughters of the Republic of Texas local chapter president, Kathleen Townzen, found a colorful resource map of Texas, depicting historical, geologic and cultural aspects throughout the state. She purchased several to donate to local libraries.

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to a Ribbon Cutting at Lamberto’s Brandon House Bistro on Thursday, Feb. 8.

The 40th anniversary for the Annual Equipping the Saints (ETS) sponsored by the Bluebonnet Conference of ELCA Congregations will be celebrated in 2024. The all-day event is being hosted by St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 400 N. Esplanade, Cuero on Saturday, Feb. 3. This year’s theme is “Celebrating the Past, Understanding the Present and Preparing for the Future.”

Nesbitt Memorial Library invites families to a special Pajama Storytime on Friday, Feb. 9 at 5 p.m. with newly published author Lindsay Neath Hall featuring Ralph the Garden Gnome as well as an appearance by Jordan E. Fayette who created the art for the book.

Church Annual Camp Meeting The Rock Island Full Gospel Church will be holding its annual Camp Meeting beginning on Monday night, Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. It will continue Tuesday through Saturday night, Feb. 10 with daily services at 10:00 a.m., 2:30 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. Visiting ministers and singers from numerous states will be there to minister, sing, and fellowship. Meals and refreshments will be served. Everyone is invited to attend for a time of worship, refreshing, and fellowship.
