SAN FELIPE – One of the integral towns in American immigration to Texas during the settler area is recognizing its long history as San Felipe with a 200th-year birthday celebration on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As Veteran’s Day approaches on Nov. 11, towns around the country have been finding ways to celebrate and recognize the sacrifices of living and deceased members of the U.S. military. Colorado County has several impending events to participate in the celebration as the towns in the area are heavily influenced by the presence of veteran residents.

Boy scouts to run fundraiser sponsored by Columbus Noon Lions

COLUMBUS – The Columbus Boy Scout Troop 312 is hosting a hamburger fundraiser on Tuesday, Nov. 14 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the proceeds returning to the scout program in the town. The Columbus Noon Lions Club is providing their signature grilled burgers along with a bag of chips as the dinner offered in the drive through fundraiser. Dinners can be picked up at the Boy Scout Hut at Bowie and Preston Streets. For more information, contact 979-292-4061.

St. Anthony celebrates All Saints Day, readies for basketball

The beginning of November found SAS celebrating All Saints Day and All Souls Day. SAS 4th graders presented their Living Museum of Saints projects on Nov. 1 in honor of All Saints Day. Students chose a saint to research, and “came to life” to present their project in character. Parents and other SAS students enjoyed learning about the lives of over 20 saints.

Second grade St. Michael students researched and portrayed saints for All Saints Day Mass. The students and the saint they represented in the front row from left are Annie Wessels as St. Kareri Tekakwitha, James Connor as St. Andrew, Avery Vanicek as St. Rose of Lima, Easton Melnar as St. Roch, Matthew Srubar as St. Matthew, Sadie Davis as Joan of Arc and Addy Berger as St. Elizabeth of Hungary. USDA to Provide More Than $3 Billion to Commodity and Specialty Crop Producers Impacted by 2022 Natural Disasters

WASHINGTON - The U. S Department of Agriculture (USDA) will provide more than $3 billion to commodity and specialty crop producers impacted by natural disaster events in 2022. Eligible impacted producers can apply for financial assistance through the Emergency Relief Program (ERP) 2022. The program will help offset the financial impacts of crop yield and value losses from qualifying disasters occurring in 2022.

Cavender Weimar receives excellence award

WEIMAR – Cavender Auto Country received recognition on Tuesday, Oct. 17 for their performance and service throughout the last year. After a highly productive year, the Chevrolet corporation awarded the Weimar location with the Chevy Zone Cup as well as the Mark of Excellence award. It was the third time in a row that the location had secured the Mark of Excellence from Chevrolet.

The local chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas (DRT) donated Texas history items to the St. Michael’s Catholic Church School on Oct. 18. Nancy Koehl, Librarian, was on hand to receive the books and other documents from Donna Pustejovsky, Vice President of the Dilue Rose Harris chapter. Donated items included: Texas Declaration of Independence Col. Travis’ letter asking for assistance to the Alamo Handbill, “A call to arms to the people of Texas!”
