Voter registration deadline approaches

Those hoping to vote in the Nov. 7 amendments elections have a limited time to register to vote as the voter registration deadline nears. The final day to register to vote and have a say in the upcoming amendments elections is Tuesday, Oct. 10. Early voting begins Oct. 23 and ends on Nov. 3 according to the Texas Secretary of State’s office. Voters will decide on 14 potential amendments including measures to increase the homestead exemption from $40,000 to $100,000, with homeowners 65 and older getting an additional $40,000 exemption as well as other property tax related bills.

In last week’s edition within the Columbus volleyball coverage of Sage Thomas and Ally Tribe’s career accomplishments, Sage Thomas is incorrectly named as Thompson throughout the story. Thomas eclipsed the 4,000-assist mark this season as a consistent performer in her years as a varsity player. The Citizen would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

USDA to begin issuing $1.75 billion to agricultural producers through critical emergency relief programs

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Wednesday, Sept. 27 announced that it will begin issuing more than $1.75 billion in emergency relief payments to eligible farmers and livestock producers. These much-needed payments are helping farming and ranching operations recover following natural disasters in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
