COLUMBUS — Drivers on Kleihege Road will need to slow down to a new speed as the Colorado County Commissioners set a new speed limit on the road along with several other actions at their March 25 regular meeting.

After holding a public hearing regarding the speed limit change, the Commissioners moved to establish a 30 MPH speed limit on Kleihege Road from FM 1291 to Ehlinger Road. Commissioner Neuendorff cited that drivers had been excessively speeding down that road and hopes that the new limit can help the county enforce a safer speed.

The Commissioners signed a proclamation recognizing April as Fair Housing Month in Colorado County. The month is celebrated nationally to recognize the Fair Housing Act of 1988 that halted discriminatory housing practices.

The county building at 316 Spring St. will be making some room for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department as the state entity looks to hold satellite office space to operate from Colorado County. The department is hiring a new position to the district that will focus their service on Colorado County, causing them to need more space for their daily operations.

The Commissioners displayed their respect for the late David Kotzebue, former Colorado County 911 Rural Addressing Coordinator.

San Bernard Electric Cooperative Inc. had their application accepted to build a power pole on West 5th Street in Precinct 2.

The date for another public hearing regarding the speed limit on several county roads in Precinct 2 will be during the April 8 Commissioner Court regular meeting. Commissioner Brandt hopes to get a 40 MPH speed limit on each of the following roads:

• County Road 200 from the County Road 202 intersection to the Fayette County Line.

• County Road 201 from the Highway 90 intersection to the Fayette County Line.

• All of County Road 204.

• All of County Road 220. The Commissioners will return for a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, April 8 at 9 a.m.
