A student from Weimar Independent School District was chosen for an opportunity to represent Weimar at the Government in Action Youth Tour sponsored by Fayette Electric Cooperative.
Rylynn Thumann was one of the fortunate students to receive an invitation to participate in a closer look at how the government functions.
Over 150 students from Texas were selected along with around 1,900 other students from around the nation to participate in the educational program.
The program allows students to gain insight into national history while educating them on the government and fellow electric cooperatives.
Electric co-ops have been an integral part of the Youth Tour since 1965 as the program has grown larger over time.
The selected students and adult chaperones will meet first in Austin before flying to Washington D.C. for a week of historic tours and visits to museums and congressional offices. They will even have the opportunity to meet their U.S. representatives.
Attendees will also be able to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as well as a cruise on the Potomac River. The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association will also host a Youth Day for those in attendance.
