CGC MARCH YARD OF THE MONTH

Robert Arthur “Bobby” Zajicek, 83, of Columbus, Texas, entered into Eternal Rest on March 23, 2023.

Mary Lucille Sarkozy was born in Jackson, Mississippi on Monday, Aug. 31, 1931, and passed away peacefully of natural causes, in Houston, Texas, on March 1, 2023. “Mary Lu” was 91 years old.

Annie Margaret Girndt Moore, 87, of Rock Island, Texas, passed away on March 24, 2023, in Eagle Lake, Texas. She was born on May 2, 1935 to Lawrence Girndt and Bertha Carpenter in Rock Island, TX. On June 17, 1967 she married Michael William Moore, and they were proudly committed for 56 years.

Jason Edward Smith, 56, passed into the arms of the Lord suddenly on March 17, 2023, at his residence in Crandall, TX. Jason was born on March 7, 1967 in Eagle Lake to the late Sandra and Edd (Richard) Smith.

Living with twenty two girls is hard. Trying to run them is even harder. I was awarded the position of the first Platoon Guide for Echo for the spring 2023 semester. Prior to becoming the platoon guide, I was a squad leader, meaning I was in charge of four other girls.

As a newcomer to Columbus in the early 90s, it was my pleasure to write/direct 3 plays for Columbus Historic Preservation Trust (CHPT) in the Stafford Opera House. The cast was local and our friends and neighbors filled the House. I hope that you have heard that there will be a play this year. It is part of the bi-centennial celebration. This year’s one act plat is titled “Happy Birthday Columbus”. It will portray an imaginary 5th grade class on the day of the birthday party. The students are played by your neighbors Ester Chandler, Gary Chandler, Ann Butler, James Yearwood, Billy Kahn, Tina Higdon, Bob Stiles, John Crews, Lori Ann Gobert, Dr Kirk Anderson, Kathy Salguero, Mark Candela, Darrel Appelt, Phillip Brummett, Allison Korrel, Beamer Stiles, Shirley Isbell, and John Isbell.

New facility will add much-needed power to Texas electric grid

COLUMBUS – The City Council met in regular session March 13 to discuss the appointment of an associate judge and conduct a second reading regarding expenditures.

COLUMBUS – The Colorado County Commissioners met in regular session March 13 to discuss land replats and the speed limit on county roads in Precinct 2.

EAGLE LAKE – The City Council met in regular session March 14 to discuss items on the agenda. At the beginning of the meeting, public comments from Eagle Lake residents and residents from Missouri City and La Marque, spoke concerning City Manager Charles “Tink” Jackson who they say served on the city councils in their cities before coming to Eagle Lake. Residents also voiced their support for Police Chief Kris Abbott.

COLUMBUS – The public is invited to attend a presentation by renowned forensic reconstruct artist and sculptor Amanda Danning at Nesbitt Memorial Library, 529 Washington St., on Thursday, March 30 at 2 p.m.

WEIMAR – Friends of the Weimar Public Library will present Charles Hebert, Texas history author, at Weimar United Church 403 W. Main at 10 a.m. on March 29.

Columbus High School 2023 graduates of trade school and technology training can apply for scholarships by the Columbus Education Foundation now through March 29.

WEIMAR – The Weimar Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 5875 met March 14 to discuss their next round of community initiatives.
