Weimar VFW Auxiliary Post 5875 prepares for Poppy Drive, elections

WEIMAR – The Weimar Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 5875 met March 14 to discuss their next round of community initiatives.

WEIMAR — The Weimar Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 5875 met March 14 to discuss their next round of community initiatives.

Jeanette Koenig reported that the patriotic books and art contest applications were delivered to schools. Contest entries are due March 31 with judging to follow.

The group said the next Buddy Poppy Drive will be around Memorial Day, depending on what is decided about the meal.

Jeanette Hoelscher reported that she made two visits to Parkview, sent in reports, sent two birthday cards and visited a member at home.

Kathy Hudec reported she has sent in the historian’s end of year report.

Charlene Muras reminded members to read the VFW magazine, which is now digital.

The next Men’s Coffee at Parkview is March 17. Dolores Lauck reported that the auxiliary will have a bake sale on April 22 at Kasper’s and MG.

Elections within the auxiliary will take place at the April meeting.

For the Good of the Order, Jeanette Koenig read a piece by Red Skelton to school kids on the meaning of every word of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Charlene Muras read about the mission of the VFW which is to serve “veterans, the military and our communities.”

The next meeting will be 6 p.m. April 11 at the VFW Hall kitchen.
