ST. MICHAEL CATHOLIC SCHOOL RECOGNIZES CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK, FFA DAY
HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston University recently released their list of students that received academic merits from the prior semester. Many students that originated from Colorado County are featured on the list due to their classroom performance at the university. The following is a list of the students from the county that reached Sam Houston’s Dean’s List and President’s List.
BRENHAM – Cub Scout Pack 312 was well represented at the district race on Feb. 17. There were 45 derby racers in attendance with George Bergfeld, Jr. taking 1st place in Webelos and 4th place overall.

COLUMBUS – The girls of the Boys and Girls Club enjoyed a new experience as the GirlFriends group took them on a trip to the Robert Wells Jr. Airport on Feb. 12.

It’s Book Fair time at SAS! The Ignatius Book Fair, “Fostering Faith, One Chapter at a Time,” will kick-off after this weekend’s masses.
GARWOOD – The school year has reached its latter stages after students at Colorado County schools have surpassed the 100th day of classes. Each school celebrated the mark differently, but the students at Garwood Elementary were challenged to show some kindness with charitable donations.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Today, Wednesday, Feb. 14, is Ash Wednesday which marks the beginning of the Lenten season. St. Anthony students perform Mass this morning at 8:15 a.m. During Lent, students will pray the Stations of the Cross weekly, and will attend Adoration on Wednesdays.
The Fayette Community Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2024 Scholarships, with a deadline of April 1.
BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB GIRLFRIENDS HELP HOST PAINTING PROJECT
COLUMBUS – The Columbus Chamber of Commerce is looking for high school students eager to serve their community as junior ambassadors. The seventh annual Junior Ambassador Scholarship Award is now accepting applicants.
Columbus Elementary School will be asking parents of new pre-k and kindergarten students to bring their required documents to the school for a registration event at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2.
Colorado County Habitat for Humanity is presenting four free financial classes in partnership with local banks and businesses. The classes will be in February and March covering basic financial topics like money values and influences to spending and savings plans to credit reports and scores and building financial futures. Everyone is welcome to attend.
HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston State University released the names of their 2023 Fall Graduates in a list that included several students with Colorado County origins.
