Narcotics Task Force Arrests local man Aug. 10
Narcotics Task Force Arrests local man Aug. 10

Austin County Regional Special Response Team (SRT) executed an arrest warrant Thursday August 10, 2023 at approximately 11:00 am at the 1900 block of Bowie Street in Columbus, Texas. The operation was the result of an ongoing narcotics investigation by the Westside High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA), a Narcotics Task Force. Suspect by the name of Ray Coleman age 43, was located and arrested on active warrant for manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance. This task force covers four counties and is comprised of investigators from Austin County Sheriff’s Office, Bellville PD, Sealy PD, Hempstead PD, Waller County Sheriff’s Office, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, and DEA. The Colorado County Attorney’s Office assisted with the investigation along with local authorities joining to assist with the operation as well.

Mayor Lori An Gobert made a major statement for women in the county on Tuesday, Aug. 15 as several women and girls gathered to witness Gobert sign a woman-centered proclamation into reality. During the event coordinated by the Colorado County unit of the League of Women Voters of South Central Texas, Gobert proclaimed that Aug. 26 would become Women’s Equality Day in Columbus.

LCRA urges watering cutbacks as serve drought presists

As the extreme, prolonged drought throughout the region continues, the Lower Colorado River Authority has entered Stage 2 of its drought response and is asking its water customers to cut back water use by 10%-20%. “This is a serious drought, and everyone needs to step up and do their part to reduce water use,” said John Hofmann, LCRA executive vice president of Water. “We have enough water, but we don’t have enough water to waste.”

Several top ten runners for Raiders in Rice 3000 meet

The Rice Raiders’ cross-country team began their 2023 season with a home-hosted meet as they attempt to defend their boys’ district title from a season ago. After a strong performance that saw three Raiders finish in consecutive top ten placements, Rice is hoping that they have gotten out to a solid start to their season. The Lady Raiders had two runners representing Rice, while the boys sent a team of 15 runners to compete in the race. The Raiders finished in third place as a team in the boys’ competition, finishing their first meet with a team bronze medal.
