St. Paul Lutheran Church to offer drive-thru ashes on Ash Wednesday

COLUMBUS – The St. Paul Lutheran Church has found a creative way to allow as many people as possible to follow the tradition of Ash Wednesday to commemorate the first day of Lent in the Catholic faith. On Wednesday, Feb. 14, the church will offer ashes for mobile believers in a drive-thru line at the drop-off area of the Lighthouse at 201 Veterans Drive.

St. Paul United Methodist to hold 158th church anniversary

The St. Paul United Methodist Church at 916 Fannin St. is preparing to celebrate its 158th anniversary since becoming the first African American church in Colorado County. The celebration is scheduled for Feb. 11 at 3 p.m. following normal Sunday Service. Reverend Dr. Diane Carter of Diane Carter Ministries in Oklahoma will return to her birthplace of Columbus to deliver the message during the service.

The Rock Island Full Gospel Church will be holding its annual Camp Meeting beginning on Monday night, Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. It will continue Tuesday through Saturday night, Feb. 10 with daily services at 10 a.m., 2:30 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. Visiting ministers and singers from numerous states will be there to minister, sing, and fellowship.
