Texas leads for jobs added over last year, growing faster than U.S.

AUSTIN – On March 13, Governor Greg Abbott congratulated Texans and Texas employers on helping our state lead the nation in job growth, following the news showing Texas led all states with 654,100 jobs added January 2022 to January 2023. Over those 12 months, Texas grew jobs at 5.0 percent, outpacing the national rate of 3.3 percent.

A new beginning

I came to Texas ChalleNGe Academy for a second chance at life. After making some bad decisions in my life, I realized that if I wanted to be a successful adult, I would need to make some changes in my life as a teen. Somehow God led my mother to learn about TCA, and I applied and was thankfully accepted.

My aunt told my parents about Texas ChalleNGe Academy because of the bad choices that I was making in my life. Prior to coming to TCA, I was skipping class, hanging with the wrong crowds, and disrespecting my parents. I didn’t like seeing my parents cry, but at the time, I was only thinking about myself.

Gov. Abbott, HHSC announce final extension of emergency SNAP benefits

AUSTIN – Governor Greg Abbott today announced the Texas Health and Human Services Commission is providing more than $345.9 million in emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program food benefits for the month of February as the final extension of benefits. Congress recently passed legislation to establish February 2023 as the last month eligible households can receive emergency SNAP benefits. The allotments are expected to help about 1.6 million Texas households.
