A View Of Columbus Through Rose-Colored Glasses
This column is dedicated to acknowledging examples of positives that express the community spirit of Columbus – our town.
You’re Invited: Games, Laughter, Fun, Smiles, Music, Lunch The title gives you the words that describe Senior Connection that began Wednesday, June 7, at the Buddy Rau Room at the Stafford Opera House. The first day was quite a scene. The room was full as seniors “65 and over” arrived with smiles and anticipation. John and Diane Jones, with a cadre of volunteers, were thrilled at “the turn-out”. Seniors from all of our neighboring towns gathered at the tables for dominoes, dice, card games, and a big game of Bingo with prizes. The second Senior Connection will welcome a new group on June 21. This new organization will meet every first and third Wednesday. John Jones and wife, Diane, with a crew of volunteers … Ann, Florence, Roxanne, Shirley, John, Nancy & Bob, and dog Beamer, are offering this opportunity for seniors to socialize. This is a volunteer effort at no cost to the participants. Now, if you would like to bring a few fresh flowers or homemade cookies, that would be a treat.
Another special event for a great cause is “Taste of Columbus” which is a fund raiser for Boys and Girls Club. This is a yearly event that features 32 cooking teams vying for bragging rights. This night, July 14, 2023, at the Boys and Girls Club of Champion Valley, Columbus, features fabulous food and complimentary beer and wine. You will enjoy the auctions and the MC, Darrel Appelt. It’s a “feel good” night. Tickets are available from the Columbus Chamber or B&G Club board members.
