ALLEN MAURICE KAHLDEN

Allen ‘Cotton’ Maurice Kahlden passed away July 16, 2023, in Columbus, Texas at the age of 92. He was born at home south of Columbus on June 1, 1931, to Werner and Mary Frers Kahlden. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1949.

Allen and Bernice Scheel Kahlden were married on Oct. 20, 1952, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellinger, Texas. When he was honorably discharged from the Army on Jan. 4, 1956, Allen came home and was employed by S. K. Seymour Lumber Yard. In February 1966, Allen began his career in the oilfield with Superior Oil Company in Ramsey, Texas. When the plant closed, Allen was moved to the gas plant in Altair, Texas. Allen retired from the oilfield in 1993 and was able to enjoy his hobbies full-time. He always kept a sizable herd of cattle and could tell you all of the specifics on each one. Allen took great pride in his large garden as well. He spent countless hours growing many different types of vegetables and would bring them home to have Bernice can them. After he retired, Allen spent his mornings discussing current topics and drinking coffee with the crew at Colorado Feed. Allen shared his love of hunting and fishing with his children and later with his grandchildren.

Allen and Bernice enjoyed attending their grandchildren’s activities; from football games to baseball games, dance recitals, and rodeos.

Allen was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice, sister, Dorothy Kahlden Zinkula and her husband George, brother, Quentin Kahlden, brothers-in-law, Willie Mazac and Allen Hammack, and his parents Werner and Mary Frers Kahlden.
