LaVerne was born on Nov. 26, 1926 in Shaws Bend, Texas to Albert L. Reising and Annie Ohl.
LaVerne enjoyed gardening, preparing del icious home cooked meals, many made from scratch. She was famous for her scrumptious chocolate cake, pies and her Neiman Marcus Christmas cookies which she graciously shared with family and friends. LaVerne, “Mom” was also known for looking impeccably groomed and never left the house without wearing a beautiful outfit and having gorgeous, perfectly coiffed hair. She worked for many years alongside her husband Henry in the restaurant business. Together they owned several BBQ restaurants and served up wonderful meals that were a delight to anyone who ate there. She was later employed at Luby’s Cafeteria on Steck Avenue in Austin, Texas for 10 years as a cashier. Later in life she moved back to Columbus, Texas and continued to stay busy volunteering and working as a home health care assistant showing compassionate care to the elderly. She cherished and enjoyed her family and friends. She loved taking road trips to the Hill Country, especially Fredericksburg. She
loved to shop and was an expert at finding the best deals. She treasured many longtime friendships. Her best friend for over 85 years was Pete Mikulenka who she shared many good times and memories with and being German - a cold beer. She also enjoyed flowers, nature, and bird watching. Her favorite was the Cardinal. Mom also enjoyed celebrating all the holidays, especially Christmas. She had a strong faith and a deep love of God and read her devotionals daily. Mom was very independent and strong willed. She showed a fighting and resilient spirit to the very end. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Many thanks and gratitude to all her caregivers and nursing facilities that took diligent care of her since she suffered a stroke in June 2020. College Place in Schulenburg, Steven’s Nursing in Hallettsville and Lost Pines in Bastrop who provided her hospice care for the last year of her life and always treated her with the utmost care and respect and made a difficult year more bearable.
LaVerne is survived by her daughter Tammy Campos and son James W. White; grandchildren Kevin Carter, David Bullard, Nicki Yannessa, Terri Eves, and Raynette Marascola; 13 great-grandchi ldren and 1 greatgreat- grandchild.
LaVerne is preceded in death by her parents, Albert L. Reising and Annie Ohl; husband Henry F. White; daughter Cheryl Foster; son Bo Bullard; brothers Rubin Reising, Leon Reising, Walter Reising, Fritz Koch, Otto Reising and Alvin Reising; sisters Annie Mae Cejka, Hilda Ruhmann, Lydia Kirsch and Lena Reising.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 10 a.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas with Rev. Victor Morrison officiating. Visitation was from 9-10 a.m.
Burial followed at Brune Cemetery in Shaws Bend, Texas.
Reception was held at noon at the First Baptist Church located at 1700 Milam St., Columbus, Texas.
Pallbearers were Lynn Reising, Bruce Reising, Delbert Kulhanek, Tommy Janek, David Bullard and Tim Kulhanek.
Memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
