COY DELL SCHINDLER

COY DELL SCHINDLER

Coy Dell Schindler, 90, of Columbus, died on Saturday, March 15. Coy Dell was born in Columbus on January 28, 1935, the daughter of Lester and Norine Lipperdt of Weimar. Coy Dell graduated from Weimar High School in 1952.

She was married to Joe “Jack” Schindler on January 30, 1953, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Weimar. Coy Dell and Jack were involved in a tragic accident on June 28, 2018, leaving Coy Dell widowed.

She lived the rest of her years as a resident at Trucare Living Center in Columbus. The injuries of the accident left Coy Dell bound to a wheelchair, however, she enjoyed the many familiar

faces, old friends and domino partners who also resided at TLC.

Coy Dell spent much of her life helping her husband on the Bernardo farm where the family owned land and cattle and where they raised three sons, Joe Wayne, Allen and Gary. After her children entered school, she took a salesclerk position at Gindler’s Department Store in Columbus and worked there over 30 years. She enjoyed working at Gindler’s with the public, other ladies and young clerks more than the farm.

In their later years, Coy Dell and Jack moved from the farm and resided at 103 Becica in Columbus. She still accompanied Jack on his drives to the farm to help with the cattle. They lived out the rest of their years together at their home in town.

Coy Dell was a good mother and grandmother. Her home in town was always a place of refuge if her school age grandchildren needed a place to go after school or for those occasions when they became ill during the day and needed Grandma’s care to get well again.

She was always a face in the bleachers to support her grandchildren at livestock shows, baseball, softball, volleyball games, dance pageants and band concerts.

She was an excellent cook and could prepare meals with such ease; she had a knack for whipping up tasty dishes without fail. Some of her most popular dishes were banana pudding with vanilla wafers, fresh baked cookies, sweet tea brewed the old fashion way and her spaghetti cooked to perfection in her favorite Dutch oven style kettle.

The spaghetti dish was always a favorite served up at the end of a laborious day to the hay haulers and cowboys that helped on the farm.

Coy Dell was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and continued to worship there for years after becoming a resident of TLC until her health worsened.

Coy Dell is survived by her sons Gary Schindler and wife Donna of Bernardo, Allen Schindler of Ramsey, and Joe Wayne Schindler and wife Hope of Bernardo; grandchildren Magen Altieri, Madison Schindler, Katie Carter, Karlie Patterson, and Kase Schindler; great-grandchildren Payton Altieri, Eli Schindler, Jesse Schindler, Riley Patterson, Remington Carter, Maverick Tiffin, and Beckett Tiffin; sisters Joyce Schlechte and husband Leroy of Kerrville and Jean Herzik of Giddings; brother Lester Ray Lipperdt of Missouri City.

She is preceded in death by her parents Lester and Norine Lipperdt; husband Joe “Jack” Schindler; sister- in-law Emma Lou Lipperdt; brother-in-law Johnny Herzik; granddaughter Devon Schindler Tiffin.

A private graveside service will be held at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus, Texas.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 267, Columbus, TX 78934.
