EDWARD (ED) KOEHL

Edward (Ed) Koehl, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, peacefully departed this life on January 30, 2025, at the age of 86. He was born on March 3, 1938, in El Campo, TX, to Albert and Betty Koehl and resided formerly in Wharton, TX and recently in Moore, OK. Ed lived a remarkable life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished moments.

Ed was a loving husband to his dear wife, Kathy Koehl, with whom he shared an incredible 61 years of marriage. Together, they created a beautiful family, raising two wonderful children,

KOEHL, 7 Brian Koehl, wife Christina, and daughter Laurie Grainger, husband Jerry, all enriching the family bond. He was a proud grandfather to McKenna and Tyler Koehl, and Dawson Grainger along with several step-grand and great grandchildren.

Ed’s legacy continues through his family, which also includes sister-in-law Rebecca Skutca, brotherin- law, Joe Skutca and wife Waldine, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ernest and wife Vlasta, Eugene and wife Margaret, in-laws Louis and Lena Skutca and brothers-in-law Robert and David Skutca.

His life was a tapestry of experiences and accomplishments. A proud veteran of the Army and Reserves, he rose to the rank of SP5 showcasing his dedication and commitment to our country. His remarkable career with the U.S. Postal Service spanned over 32 years as a carrier and superintendent of mail in Wharton, TX, where he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and community alike.

A true “jack of all trades,” Ed was known for his ability to fix just about anything and served many as a handyman. He also earned a living as a farmer, a butcher and helping Kathy with their successful home bakery.

Beyond his work, Ed’s joyful spirit was evident in his love for fun! Whether he was dancing to polka music, playing dominoes competitively or with friends, camping and traveling the U.S. with family and friends, or testing his luck at the casino or in the local poker club, he embraced life with open arms. He was actively involved in all his children and grandchildren’s sporting activities, always coaching and rooting them on.

Ed was a proud 67-year active member of the Knights of Columbus, having joined at the young age of 18. He achieved the esteemed rank of 4th Degree Knight and gave countless hours of his time and talent in support of numerous Council activities.

His kindness, generosity, and genuine friendship touched the lives of many. Ed’s spirit and warmth created deep connections within his communities, as he was a friend to everyone he met.

As we remember Ed, we will celebrate his life with a service that reflects his vibrant spirit and the love he shared with all. Services are arranged through John Ireland Funeral Home, Moore, OK. Though Ed has departed this world, his legacy of love, service, and friendship will continue to resonate with all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will always remain in our hearts, celebrating a well-lived life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ed’s memory to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, or Knights of Columbus Council #9901 reflecting his commitment to community service, health, and goodwill.
