GLENN ADRIAN STROMQUIST

GLENN ADRIAN STROMQUIST

Glenn Adrian Stromquist was born on March 3, 1947, and passed away on February 8, 2025. Glenn was born to Herbert and Ethel Stromquist in El Campo, Texas. Glenn spent his early years living on the Stromquist Dairy in Bernardo, Texas.

As an adult, he took charge of the Dairy and ran it for many years. When he was a child, he accepted Christ as his personal savior at the First Baptist Church of Columbus. He often talked about his Sunday school teacher, Louise Hancher.

Growing up he enjoyed spending time on his Grand-

STROMQUIST, 7 pa Johnson’s ranch and spent many weekday afternoons and weekends doing chores with his beloved Grandpa. During his teenage years he and his friends spent wonderful times on the ranch hunting quail, doves and jackrabbits.

On Saturday mornings he and his friends loved his grandmother’s Swedish pancakes. He took great pride in his Swedish heritage. He came from the Bernardo school and started Columbus High School his freshman year.

During his sophomore year he started dating the love of his life, Jane Catherine O’Leary. With Jane being Catholic and Glenn being Baptist, they caused quite a stir. They both graduated from Columbus in 1965 and in spite of the doubters they were married on January 18, 1969. They just celebrated their 56th anniversary this year.

While in high school, Glenn was active in sports, and his senior year, he was student council president and captain of the football team. In 1973, they welcomed a daughter, Shelley Marie, and in 1978, they welcomed a second daughter, Kelly Louise. In the late 80s Glenn’s family moved to the Dallas area to begin a weatherstripping company.

Glenn had many successful years in the construction business. He was active in the First Free Will Baptist Church of Duncanville, where he enjoyed landscaping the church grounds, bringing the doughnuts for Sunday school and barbecuing for church functions. In 1999, his first grandchild was born.

After having four sisters and two daughters, Glenn finally welcomed four grandsons, one precious granddaughter, and two great-grandsons into the family: Johnathan, Victoria and Nicholas Nelson; Jacob and Carson Knott; and great-grandchildren Brewer and Kit Nelson. He was always a faithful grandfather, whether it was taking them to daycare or picking them up, going to grandparents day lunch, sporting events and graduations. He also enjoyed hosting Easter and hiding money eggs for his grandchildren.

Glenn took great pride in landscaping his own yard and was often the envy of the neighborhood. He was even named Yard of the Month one year. One of our favorite memories of our dad is when we took a trip to the Alamo. The tour guide didn’t show, so dad stepped in and led the tour because he was always so knowledgeable about all things history.

Glenn is preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Ethel Stromquist and his sister Janet.

He is survived by his wife, whom he called his treasure, Jane; his daughter, Shelley Nelson; son-inlaw, Joe; grandchildren, Johnathan, wife LaRissa and great-grandchildren Brewer and Kit; Victoria and her soon-to-be husband, Reid Sumrow; and third grandchild, Nicholas. He is also survived by his second daughter, Kelly Knott; sonin- law, Chris; and grandchildren, Jacob and Carson. He is survived by his sisters, Sharon Jones, and husband, Steve; Kay Svoboda and husband, Gene; Sally Seydler and husband, Redd; and many nieces and nephews.

A service will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at the First Free Will Baptist Church on 1415 W. Wheatland Rd in Duncanville, TX, 75116.
