He was born on September 6, 1925, to Frank and Bettie (Kurtz) Vackar in Shiner, Texas. For much of his life he lived on a small farm in Flatonia, Texas, where he raised cattle. He also drove trucks while working in the oil fields. He lived in Flatonia until moving in 2004 to Glidden, Texas.
James served in World War II in the Army with the 10th Infantry, 5th Infantry Division, in the European Theater and served as a rifleman.
He is survived by his nieces, Kay Town and husband, Jeff; and Beverly Wagner and husband, Reed. His nephews, Michael Vackar, and wife, Claire, Mark Vackar, and wife, Christy and Gerald Vackar. He is also survived by many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Bettie (Kurtz) Vackar; his sisters, Agnes Vackar, Katherine Vackar and Angie Vackar and his brother, Frank L. Vackar.
Graveside services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Flatonia, Texas, on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. with Deacon Tim Kozelsky officiating.
