GUS H. MILLER

Gus H. Miller, Jr., 99, of Columbus, Texas, passed away on January 21, 2025, in Columbus, Texas peacefully in his sleep.

He was born on November 18, 1925, to Gus H. and Winnie (Kelton) Miller in Columbus, Texas. On August 15, 1953, he married Margaret Munson in San Marcos, Texas.

Gus was a lifet ime member of The First United Methodist Church in Columbus and served as Treasurer for many years. He was a member of the Rotary Club and served as President. He was also a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion since 1946 and was a founder and builder of the Legion Hall for V.F.W.

Gus was very involved in his community and was a member of the NRA, Ducks Unlimited, Cemetery Board and Old Cemetery Restoration, Community Chest, SBEC Board and Chairman, FSB President and Board Director, Director of Colorado County Savings and Loan, a Little League coach, Magnolia Homes Tour founder, Columbus Historical Preservation Trust member, founder and lifetime contributor of the Colorado County Fair and served on the Columbus Community Hospital Board.

Gus graduated from Columbus High School and attended the University of Texas. On May 30, 1944, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry, European Theatre, Unit HHS B CO 386th Rgmt 97th ID, recipient of the Bronze Star for combat operations in Europe, Combat European Operations and Occupational Army in Japan.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling and going to the ranch and working with his cows.

Gus is survived by his children Lisa M. McNutt and husband Al of Columbus, Anna M. Wessels and Mike Norris of Kerrville, Carol ine M. Spradl ing and husband Chuck of Kyle; son Thomas G. Miller of Columbus; special friend Richard Wessels; grandchildren: Jenna W. Summers and husband Eric of Kerrville, Audrey W. Mooney and husband Ryan of Fulshear, Matthew R. Wessels and wife Amanda of Boerne, Lindsay McNutt of Columbus, Katie Capers and husband Manton of Lewisville, Sara McNutt of Houston, Jake Spradl ing of Houston, and Zach Spradling of Kyle; great-grandchildren: Harper and June Summers, Hayes, Walker, and Austin Mooney, Kora, Beau and Tuff Wessels; brotherin law Russell W. Munson, Jr. and wife Linda of New York City.

He was preceded in death by his father Gus Herman Miller, Sr.; Mother Winnie K. Miller; fatherin- law Russell W. Munson; mother-in-law Alberta H. Munson; wife of 69 years, Margaret M. Miller; sister and brother-in-law Margaret Sue Miller Allen and Robert Allen.

A private family graveside service was held at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus, Texas officiated by Rev. Donna Krueger and Pastor Sunshine Reyes on Friday, January 24, 2025.

Pal lbearers were his grandsons: Eric Summers, Ryan Mooney, Matthew Wessels, Manton Capers, Jake Spradling and Zach Spradling.
