EDWARD HERBERT GOLD

EDWARD HERBERT GOLD

Edward Herbert Gold, 70, of Garwood, peacefully passed away at his home on Feb. 25, 2023, after a recent cancer diagnosis. He was born on July 22, 1952 to the late Albert and Agatha Leopold Gold. Ed reluctantly retired from farming on Feb. 25, 2023. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3371 and St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. He also served on the board for the American Rice Growers Association of Garwood and the Colorado County Appraisal District Board.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kim Woolard Gold of Garwood; daughter, Erin Gold Sparks (Cody) of Georgetown; son, Layton Gold of El Campo; grandson, Conway Edward Sparks of Georgetown; brother, James Gold (Betty) and sister, Judy Heimann (Harvey).

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Ed enjoyed family ski trips, annual hunting adventures, visiting his deer lease, offshore fishing excursions and more recently road trips with his wife as empty nesters. Although none of these hobbies took priority over his true passion for farming. He began his farming career in 1971 at the age of 19 and continuously worked to grow his farm operation through hard work and an entrepreneurial vision. He was meticulous when it came to his land maintenance. Ed loved a good day on the backhoe and then lighting up the burn pile. He took great pride in his equipment and a clean John Deere tractor always made him smile. His favorite times of year were planting and harvest seasons where he could put in long days of productive labor and take a quick break for a field side picnic lunch with his crew and wife. Most recently, he enjoyed taking his little grandson on four-wheeler, tractor, and combine rides. Ed was pleased with his son’s involvement in the family businesses as this provided him assurance that his legacy would continue on.

Visitation begins at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Nada with a KC Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 1 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Wesley Heimann, Chance Heimann, Trace Heimann, Kevin Till, Travis Krenek, Shane Smith, Brian Center and Gabe Villareal.

Honorary Pallbearers are Ronnie Gold, Jim Korenek, Old Softball Team, and Nada Coffee Group.

A special thank you goes out to his niece and all-time favorite nurse, Christie Heimann, for her dedicated care and support during his final days.
