Michael “Mike” Lee Hoffman, 77, of Altair, Texas, passed away on October 24, 2024, in Austin, Texas.

 

He was born on May 11, 1947, to Kenneth Lee Hoffman and Anne (Sigel) Hoffman in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. On October 17, 1970, he married Linda Kay Lemley.

Michael worked as a corrections officer for the Colorado County Sheriff’s Department for twenty- four years. He was also a dog trainer and kennel owner of Hoffman Kennels where he trained labs for field trials and hunting. Michael also served in the Air Force, specifically four years as an Air Policeman.

He was the current president of the Victoria Racing Pigeon Club in Victoria, Texas and a former Colorado County Fair Director and Columbus Little League baseball coach.

Mike had a unique passion for raising and flying racing pigeons. This hobby brought him a special happiness and connected him with friends and enthusiasts alike, creating lasting memories and shared experiences.

Michael, lovingly known as “Popo,” enjoyed time spent with his family around the dinner table, where stories were told and lots of laughs had.

Michael is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Linda Hoffman; daughters JoAnna Hoffman Rinn and husband Dale and Angie Hoffman Johnson and husband Bryce; sisters Jenni Koerper, Jeri Amendola and husband Vincent, and Celia Dalton and husband Dan; brothers Kenneth John Hoffman and wife Lana and Timothy Jay Hoffman; grandchildren Caisey Hoffman (fiancé Jacob Myers), Carley Rinn (Dustin Scherbig), Mackenzie Berry (husband Doug), Hunter Hoffman (Sofia Elizalde), Jenna Johnson (AJ Sanchez), Wayne Rinn (Jenny Pierce), Kaitlyn Johnson (fiancé Cade Mitscherling), and Zane Johnson (fiancé Bryson Simpson); great-grandchild Loretta Scherbig; and his beloved dog Teddy - “Mayor of Altair”, who he’d take for cheeseburger treats at Mc-Donald’s.

He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Anne Hoffman and his son Michael Timothy Hoffman.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas. Roger Olier will be officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a. m.
