CAROL JOY (LONGMIRE) DROMGOOLE

Carol Joy (Longmire) Dromgoole, 84, of Bonus, Texas, passed away on October 9, 2024, in Eagle Lake, Texas.

She was born on November 15, 1939, to George Mason Longmire and Elma Louise (Harris) Longmire in Fort Worth, Texas. Carol Joy moved to Bonus, Texas as an infant where she enjoyed the remainder of her life.

She had a lifelong passion for animals, especially horses. She was a counselor at Oak Crest Camp, her aunt’s girls camp in Bonus. She also traveled to see most of the United States with her family.

Carol Joy graduated from Wharton High School in 1957 and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Science from Texas A&I University

in Kingsville. She taught Elementary School for 40 years. She had a special love for teaching phonics and teaching children to read. She also taught Sunday School at the Bonus Baptist Church. Along with being an educator she was a lifelong rancher in Bonus, passing her family legacy down to her children.

Carol Joy dedicated all her free time to her children. She spent many hours traveling to rodeos, helping them practice in the arena at home, going to all their school events, along with countless hours working on numerous fair projects. She was the 4-H Horse Club Leader for many years. She continued to be just as devoted to her grandson, Ace, by traveling to his rodeos, 4-H, fair and sports events.

Carol Joy is survived by son Mack Wade Dromgoole; her daughters Dena Shea Daniell and LeShon Dromgoole; and grandson Ace Wyatt Daniell.

She was preceded in death by her parents George and Elma Longmire; Aunt Hattie and Uncle Earl Carter; Aunt Velma and Uncle Albert Sauer; Uncle Clyde Harris.

Carol Joy also leaves behind many friends who will greatly miss her, but whom she has left fond memories of her quick retorts, daily updates of life and worries about her kids and animals. Last but not least, she leaves behind all the students whose lives she has touched and taught, and colleagues with whom she has worked over the years.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas. Stan Warfield will be officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
