JAMES EDWARD REES

After completing school, he moved back to his hometown to work alongside his father as a rice farmer and start his family. He was a member of the Lehrer Memorial Methodist Church, charter member of the Garwood Lions Club and the Garwood Volunteer Fire Department.

When he was not farming, he enjoyed spending James Edward Rees, aged 75, of Garwood, Texas, passed away on August 28, 2024. Born on July 13, 1949, James, “Jimmy” lived a life marked by his labor to farming, his family, and his community.

Jimmy graduated from Garwood High School before attending Texas A&I University, where he earned a degree in Agriculture. time with his family, drinking a cold beverage, tubing down the river and hunting. Hunting was his passion. He had many memories of hunting in Llano and South Texas, but his favorite was hunting for mule deer in West Texas with his friends.

Jimmy was also known as” Pewpaw” to his two grandchildren Mason and Reagan. He cherished his many trips to Willis to visit and celebrate holidays. He adored his spunky granddaughter that always made him laugh and enjoyed his time in the deer stand with his grandson sharing his dearly missed.

Remaining to cherish Jimmy’s memory are his children Bryan Rees, Dyana Hivnor and husband Derek; grandchildren Mason & Reagan Hivnor; Mother of his children, Karen Rees; siblings William “Bill” Rees, Tanya Bolog and husband Richard, Denice Fischer, and husband Bill; niece and nephews, along with many extended family and friends.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents Dorothy & Boyd Rees and brother Timothy Rees.

Jimmy’s children would like to thank his caregiver and friend, Heather, for all love for hunting and the outdoors.

Jimmy was a quiet man with an old school attitude that showed his love by his kind actions over words. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be the support and care in the last years of his life.

The visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Triska Funeral Home in El Campo.

Services will be Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lehrer Memorial United Methodist Church in Garwood, TX with interment following at Lehrer Memorial Cemetery in Garwood.

Donations in memory of James may be made to the Garwood Volunteer Fire Department or donor’s choice.
