RUBY LEE “BECKY” WILBURN

Ruby Lee “Becky” Wilburn was born in Bernardo, Texas on May 6, 1930, to Nola Emma (Stahlbaum) and Arthur Leo Becker. She passed away peacefully at the age of 94, on August 16, 2024, around 4:30 p.m.

Becky was proud to be a descendant of Capt. William Frels, for whom Frelsburg was named. She attended Zimmerscheidt school, transferring to Columbus Independent School District, graduating in 1947. She worked at Columbus Hospital where she met her husband-tobe, Warren Edward “Bubba” Wilburn. Along with raising a family, she was also able to run a successful fabric store. She is fondly remembered by many for her knowledge of fabrics and her sewing expertise.

Bubba and Becky were married on January 29, 1949, on an exceptionally cold snowy day, with a temperature of 4 degrees, at the Lutheran Church in Columbus. They had 5 children: Peggy (Kenneth) Titt, Patti (Greg) Montello, Mark (Barbara Steinhauser) Wilburn, Kelly (Dianne Kutach) Wilburn, and Kathy (Tom) Bolger.

Becky was fondly called Grandmommy by 13 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and was awaiting the arrival of another great-grandson and her first great- great- granddaughter in September. She was also loved and respected by many nieces and nephews.

Becky was preceded in death by her husband, her three sisters, and her two brothers.

A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Columbus at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024.

Memorials may be given to St. John’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 746, Columbus, TX 78934.
