Max was born on Aug. 8, 1926, in Engle, Texas, to Alphonse George “AG” and Emilia “Millie” Faykus. While attending the University of Texas, he was called to serve in the Navy and Marines during WWII. Following the end of the war, Max completed his undergraduate degree at North Texas State University.

He attended medical school at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas from 1948-1952 and married his college sweetheart, Martha Joe Davis, on Aug. 30, 1952. Upon graduation, the couple moved to Tampa, Florida, where Max practiced general medicine for ten years. After moving back to Texas, Max completed a specialty residency in radiology at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. His family then settled in Victoria, Texas, where Max practiced as a radiologist for the remainder of his career. Together, Max and Martha raised their three children in a home filled with love and laughter. Following the sorrowful passing of Martha in 2013, Max married his childhood friend, Jeanine Teltschik of New Braunfels, Texas, in 2015.

Max is survived by his wife, Jeanine Teltschik Faykus; his children, Marcia Emmons (Mark) of Boulder, Colorado, Mary Sue Cullins (Mark) of Dallas, Texas, and Max Faykus, Jr. (Susie) of Fayetteville, North Carolina; his sister, Viola Zboril of Garwood, Texas; and brother, Preston Faykus (Mary Jo) of El Campo, Texas. Max also leaves behind eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren to cherish his memory, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Praha, Texas with the parish rosary to be recited at 9:30 a.m.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Daniel Cullins, Alexander Emmons, Max Faykus,III, Marshall Faykus, Mason Faykus, and nephew, Rob Zboril.
