CECIL JOHN BROD
CECIL JOHN BROD
After the Coast Guard, he entered the Oil & Gas industry, where he spent the next 52 years of his career until he retired in 2023. Most of his career was spent with Texaco and Chevron Texaco, which he formally retired from in 2007. After a very short retirement, he longed to return to what he loved doing and what he also had a world of knowledge and experience in. Cecil was fortunate to be a consultant for TexAz Field Services for the last 15 years, thanks to John Linton and Dale Wisnieski.
Another job he worked his entire adult life that also brought him the most joy was ranching with his two brothers at KCM Cattle Company. Being in the country was where he got his “medicine”. Watching the grass grow, cows eating well and resting under all the live oak trees he planted for shade was his way of relaxing.
He shared a love of ranching with his brothers and later in life with his sons. His cows were truly some of his best friends, especially his last Hereford bull he purchased named Brandon. When he wasn’t in Bernardo, you could always find him tinkering with some random items and making sure safety was always first.
Many friends and family members were the lucky recipients of a gift he made for them, deer horn cooking utensils, cutting boards, baked dishes and many other pickled items when he was canning in the spring or summertime. He also had a love for food like no other and should have had his own restaurant, many would say.
He was an amazing cook, and his best dish was anything BBQ or anything you can cook in a pot, especially stews, gumbos, etouffee, and surprisingly was one heck of a baker taking after his mom. Apart from his love for his three sons, he had the softest heart towards his grandchildren and recently added great grandson. Time spent with good friends and family was something Cecil always made a priority. Whether it was sitting on the back patio enjoying a cold beverage with his sons’ friends who stopped by, or him out visiting friends and family in Bernardo and Frelsburg made him happy to the core.
He is survived by his sons; Troy Brod (Kelly) of Bernardo, Josh Brod (Krystal) of Sugar Land and Jake Brod of El Campo. Grandchildren; Tyler and Jack Brod, Tyler and Keaton Watkins, and Ryan and Karsyn Brod, Great Grandson, Ace Brod. Sisters; Hazel Braden and Irene Morgan.
