STEVE URBAN
STEVE URBAN
He was born May 11, 1936 to Steve and Leona Schobel Urban in Weimar, Texas and baptized into the Catholic faith in 1948. Steve was united in marriage to Marilyn Marie Salas on Dec. 28, 1954 in Holman, Texas. They were a few weeks away from celebrating their 69th anniversary.
Joining the United States Air Force as an Airborne Radio Repairman for three and a half years, he was honorably discharged on May 3, 1962. After the service, Steve delivered milk for Carnation in Schulenburg, Texas and worked for Stanzel’s Aircraft. He then moved the family to Glidden and went to work for Drymalla Construction and later for Brown Electric. Steve was an electrician and had his own business until he retired. After retirement, he spent many hours helping his in-laws, Anton and Mary Salas on their farm.
A lover of animals, he was known to bring stray cats and dogs home while on the milk route. In his later years, he spent many hours feeding, watching and befriending the squirrels, deer and cats. He had several dogs throughout the years and they were all named Schnoptzy. Number 1, Number 2, etc. Steve also loved fishing, hunting, sausage making and playing dominoes.
In his younger years, he was always singing and humming around the house as he worked. He took pride in his yard, (the whole 3 acres) keeping it always looking good. Later in life, when he needed his sons to help, he would try to get it done before they arrived.
Steve is survived by his wife Marilyn; daughter Michelle Kulhanek (Gary); sons Michael Urban (Tibbie) and Russell Urban; sister Irene Kainer of Weimar; 8 grandchildren, Kim Ficarra (Joey), Kyle Urban (Diane), Cade Urban (Jenn), Chad Kulhanek (Bailey), Ryan Kulhanek (Mandi), Sean Kulhanek (Katy), Kylie Urban (Aleck), and Kaitlyn Urban; 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
