EWALD JOE SCHERTZ
He was born on June 14, 1937 to Ben Schertz and Mary (Kubicek) Schertz in Frelsburg. On June 22, 1937 he was baptized. He attended Catholic School until the 8th grade. On Feb. 22, 1974 he married Faye Annette Palm at St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church.
Ewald worked as a rancher all his life. He had other jobs like working at the feed store and raking hay for several people. He was a hunter and a fisherman and loved to be in between his cows. Throughout his life, he had several loyal dogs. Ewald enjoyed going to festivals and listening to the auction and music. He also enjoyed going to dances with his wife in their early years of marriage.
He was a member of St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church.
Ewald is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Faye Schertz; nieces and nephews Allen Schertz, Karen Janda, Patricia Willis, Robert Schertz, Carol Weishuhn, Bradley Girndt, Sharon Kubicek, Barbara Mach, Sandra Small, Anthony Schertz, Shirley Shupak, Gary Schertz, Corey Froebel, Todd Froebel and Bradley Froebel; as well as numerous family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ben and Mary Schertz; sisters Lillie Krenek and Cecilia Girndt; brothers Hugo Schertz, Anton Schertz, and Bennie Schertz; nephews Bennie James Schertz and Michael Krenek. Visitation was held on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas. A parish prayer service and rosary followed at 7 p.m. led by Deacon Doug Tromblee.
Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Church in Frelsburg. Fr. James Dvorak officiated.
Burial took place in St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in Frelsburg, Texas.
Pallbearers were Robert Schertz, Bradley Girndt, Allen Schertz, Chris Kulhanek, Mark Mach and Mark Kubicek.
