LYNDA CARROLL HOVEY COUNTS

Lynda Carroll Hovey Counts passed away on Oct. 7, 2023, at the age of 83. Lynda was born in Houston on Aug. 10,1940 to Ivan and Louise Hovey. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Richard Counts.

Lynda spent most of her young life growing up in the Clear Lake area. She graduated from Clear Creek High School as a twirler and member of the band, and she also excelled in academics. She went on to earn a Bachelors’ degree from the University of Texas. It was during this time in Austin, that she married the love of her life, Richard Counts.

Lynda and Richard were always on the move; living in Houston, Arlington, Hong Kong, Houston (again), and finally settled in Columbus, Texas, in their retirement.

Lynda was a woman of many passions and talents. Early in her life she was a high school history teacher, and she later owned an interior decorating business and travel agency. Lynda loved photography and travel most of all, visiting more than 81 countries over her lifetime. She treasured family vacations, learning about other cultures, and the opportunities to document all of this in her photography.

A hostess at heart, Lynda loved entertaining others, whether in her own home or organizing parties and events for the many organizations she was involved in. She was part of the Houston Symphony Board, The Houston Ballet Board, the Houston League of Women Voters, NASA Rendezvous Festival, Columbus Art Center, and the Columbus Garden Club.

Lynda is survived by her daughter, Kim Counts Lynch (husband Jim), and her son Scott Counts (wife Carole). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kelli Trapnell (wife Sarah), Kristen Moreland (husband Alex), Matthew Counts, Caroline Counts, Samantha Olivares (husband Casey), and her two great-grandsons, Eli Moreland and Grady Olivares. She is also survived by her brother Larry Hovey (wife JoAnn), and her sister Suzanne Rogers (husband Roy) The family would like to acknowledge and thank Mary Ihaeso, her caregiver and friend, for the past 2 years. She has been God’s Angel in taking care of Lynda and being at her side daily.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Columbus Garden Club.
