TONIE CANIK HALFMANN

Tonie Canik Halfmann, 104, of Frelsburg, Texas, passed away peacefully on Jan. 27, 2023, surrounded by her family in Columbus, Texas.

She was born on March 22, 1918 to Josef and Marie (Kulhanek) Canik in Frelsburg, Texas. On June 25, 1940 she married Albert Halfmann.

Tonie was a lifelong member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Frelsburg. She loved working and living on the farm, tending to her vegetable and flower gardens and just enjoying the outdoors. Happiness to her was family; spending Sunday visits together, baking her kolaches and poppyseed rolls and preparing lunch for anyone who came for a visit.

Tonie was a very sweet and gentle person and will be dearly missed by her family. She loved to put together jigsaw puzzles and then hang them on her walls for all to enjoy.

Tonie is survived by her son Clarence Halfmann of Frelsburg; daughters Margaret Kasmiersky and husband Raymond of Sealy, Linda Cernoch and husband Leon of Katy, Elaine Wavra and husband Donnie of Columbus; ten grandchildren, Tricia (David) Jordan, Valerie (Ted) Montemayor, Michael (Sarah) Kasmiersky, Brian (Tricia) Cernoch, Christine Cernoch, Karen (Greg) Brown, Laura (Edward) Kozel, Sarah (Caleb) Darr, Roxann (Richard) Stevenson and Clinton Halfmann; and thirteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Albert Halfmann; siblings Mary (Joseph) Janish, Joe (Mary) Canik, Bertha (John) Wostarek, Alfred (Emma) Canik, Rudolf (Lorena) Canik, August (Mary) Canik, Christine (Anton) Pavlicek, Hermina (Joe) Kubicek and Vlasta (Jerome) Vasek.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2023, from 5-7 p.m. at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus, Texas. A parish prayer service and rosary will follow at 7 p.m. officiated by Deacon Andy Nunmaker.

Funeral service will be Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Frelsburg, Texas officiated by Fr. Bob Knippenberg. Visitation at church will be from 9-10 a.m.

Burial will take place in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery in Frelsburg.

Pallbearers are Brian Cernoch, Michael Kasmiersky, Caleb Darr, Greg Brown, Edward Kozel, Clinton Halfmann, and Ryder Brown.

Memorials may be given to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 1031 Church Lane, New Ulm, Texas 78950.
