BOBBIE HADDOCK SR.
He was born Oct. 1, 1937, to Tom and Lillie (Koester) Haddock at their home in Glidden, Texas. In December 1944 his family moved to Rosenberg, Texas. In May 1956, he graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School. On Feb. 12, 1960, Bobbie married JoAnn Grant and they celebrated 52 years of marriage together before her death on Oct. 15, 2012.
Bobbie joined the Army and served from June 1956 to June 1959. He was stationed in the states and then in Germany as a signal corps telephone communications operator.
In September 1959 he started with the Houston Police Academy and in December 1959 was assigned to the traffic division where he drove a threewheel motorcycle. In 1962 he patrolled the streets and in January 1970 he began training to be a pilot for the police helicopters.
He was one of the first pilots for the new Police Helicopter Patrol. He retired as a sergeant from the helicopter unit in January 1989 after 29 years.
Bobbie worked at G&G Model Shop for eight years as an extra job and then for two years building and supervising three homes in Bayou Vista near Galveston.
In January 1999 he moved back to Glidden, where he worked for five years at Raisin L. Ranch mowing, building fences and doing bird hunts. Bobbie was president of the Glidden Water District for five years.
Some of his hobbies included wood carving, model trains and he even took up some painting.
Survivors include his son Bobbie Haddock Jr.; daughters Patricia Taylor and husband Robert, Annette Priest and husband Matt, and Jennifer Maniscalo; grandchildren Matthew Haddock, Bobbie Haddock III, Valerie Haddock, Brandi Gutierrez, Lacey Kothmann, Chelsea Taylor, Cassandra Richardson and Christopher Thompson; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife JoAnn Haddock, grandparents Sam and Lena Sutherland and sonin- law Charles Maniscalo.
Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, at Henneke Funeral Home, 1515 Montezuma St. in Columbus.
A funeral service is 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at the funeral home. Visitation is 9-10 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Columbus.
Pallbearers are Matthew Haddock, Bobbie Haddock Jr., Christopher Thompson, Robert Taylor, Matt Priest, Ty Cuellar, Max Cuellar, and Bentley Cruz. Honorary pallbearer is Richard Wilson.
Memorials may be given to a charity of choice.
