The Columbus Cardinals’ varsity basketball team has yet to lose in district play, and if the recent trend of hot shooting continues, opposing teams will have a tough time adding that first loss to the Cards’ record. The three-point shot was a big weapon for the Cards once again over the past week as they used some big performances from Cristian Reyna and Trace Braden to take back-to-back wins over Tidehaven and then Palacios.
Vs Tidehaven, W, 62-46 The Cards got their week started with an offensive explosion against Tidehaven. They scored 20 points or more in each of the first two quarters and reached double-digit scoring in all but the final period. On the other side of the ball, they were able to hold Tidehaven under double digits in two of the four quarters.
Cristian Reyna carried the offense in this game with a near 30-point performance to lead the team. He nailed three 3-pointers on the way to 29 points. Colton Pitchford was the next-highest scorer with 9 points and two made 3-pointers. Trevor Berger rounded out the top three scorers with eight points.
Vs Palacios, W, 65-52 Columbus stayed hot heading into their home game against Palacios to end the week. They opened with another 20-point quarter in the first period as they went on to hold the Sharks at an arms length for the remainder of the game.
Trace Braden notched one of his best scoring games of the season as he led the offense to a victory and it’s second-straight performance of 60 or more points. Braden finished with 17 points, followed by another strong game Cristian Reyna and Trevor Berger who finished with 12 and 11 points respectively. Jayden Trapp added a double-digit scoring performance himself with 10 points.
