GARWOOD – The Rice Little League nears the start of the season as they hosted their inaugural co-ed softball tournament fundraiser on Saturday, May 6. Teams met together for a double elimination style tournament as they raised funds for the Rice All-Stars Little League teams. The funds were raised using the participation fees for each player and team as several residents of Eagle Lake and the surrounding areas joined in to participate in the event.

Due to the success of the event and interest by the players who participated, any youth wanting to play for the Rice LL All-Stars will not have to pay a registration fee this upcoming Little League season. As part of the participation fee in the tournament, teams received a game shirt with each team being represented by a different color. Team Yellow claimed first place in the first-ever fundraiser tournament with Joseph Hernandez taking the unanimous MVP for his play and his “belly flop” dive into home for a score.
