Weimar takes on regional track meet

KINGSVILLE - The Weimar Wildcats had several athletes qualify for and compete in the regional track meet with a chance at making it to state. Many Wildcat athletes had top performances at the area meet, taking top four placements to qualify for Regionals hoping to repeat their success against heightened competition. The girls had multiple relay teams compete at Regionals after qualifying for the competition with their performances in the area track meet. The relay team of Izzy Reeves, DeDreanna Granger, Alazay Moreno and Brooke Ohnheiser took on the 4 X 400m race after taking a top four spot at Area. They could not repeat their success against the heightened competition at the regional meet as their team finished in 13th place which did not qualify them to reach the finals in that event. Reeves also participated in the 4 X 200m relay race with Kim Hinze, Delaney Turlington and Olivia Cabrera contributing to the team’s performance in the relay. They also fell short of reaching the finals as their 11th-place finish did not qualify their team to compete in the finals. Katharina Chaloupka was the only Ladycat to compete in an individual event at Regionals as she took on the pole vault competition. She had a strong performance in her event, taking a top ten spot amongst all her fellow regional competitors. However, her sixth-place finish was not a state-qualifying performance as the Ladycats track season came to an end with a strong run to the regional meet.

The boys had a few qualifiers for the regional finals as they had a few good outings from their individual competitors as well as the lone relay team representing Weimar. The 4 X 200m team of JaBraelin Thomas, Brady Henke, Huxton Kloesel and Jayden Langenburg had a performance that qualified the team to compete in the regional finals for the event after taking fifth place in the prelims. They improved their placement in the finals and finished the season as the fourth-place relay team in the region, missing out on qualifying for state by a few spots. Dakota Ford was another Wildcat who claimed a spot in the regional finals after his performance in the 110m hurdles. He took the final qualifying spot with an eight-place finish in prelims and found improvement in the finals. He bumped up one spot to seventh in the finals to finish his season. Dalton Turlington finished his season with another top 10 performance for Weimar. He was the boys’ line representative in the field events, finishing in ninth place for the pole vault competition.
