WEIMAR - The Weimar Wildcats’ varsity baseball team got the end to the season they were hoping for as they approach postseason play and vie for a deep UIL state playoff run. They were able to find a quality mix of good hitting as well as strong defense to keep a definitive advantage over the Bloomington Bobcats, a team Weimar has had success against this season. They continued their successful run against Bloomington by adding another big, double-digit win over their district opponents. On a night when the Wildcats celebrated their seniors and parents, they also celebrated a season finale victory as Weimar claimed a 10-0 win over Bloomington.
The Wildcats found another shutout victory due to their dominance at each stage of the game. They did not take long to start working on their lead as they found ways to reach base early on with a successful hitting night down the lineup. Several Wildcats ended up with hits in the game as they moved through the bases and added another double-digit scoring night to their season resume. Bloomington’s pitching did not come through with enough quality to keep the Wildcats off the basepath. The Bobcats had similar issues in the field as their all-around defensive effort did not give their team a good chance to win.
The Wildcats had a few big swings from their offensive players that helped them build up a commanding lead. Weston Pavlik led the team in both hits and RBIs after his performance at the plate. He had two hits in his three at-bats and knocked in two runs for the offense. Brady Henke also contributed an RBI with his lone hit of the game. Derek Rees had the big swing of the game, hitting a double and later scoring with the team’s only multi-base hit.
Weimar also had things going on the defensive side of the ball as well. They had a clean game out in the field as they limited their errors and gave their offense opportunities to continue to add to the lead. With few mistakes as well as some quality pitching, Bloomington failed to get any momentum offensively as they could not turn their hits into runs. Weimar held on for a shutout victory after six innings without ever needing to play a seventh.
Huxton Kloesel got the start on the mound for the Wildcats and pitched out four innings of work. He struck out two batters but helped the Wildcats keep the Bloomington bats in check. Camden Morrison relieved Kloesel for the final two innings and picked up three more strikeouts for the pitching staff.
The Wildcats played a postseason warm-up game against the Giddings Buffaloes on Tuesday, May 2 in preparation for the upcoming Bi-District Championship which marks the first round of the UIL State Playoffs. Weimar will face off against the Falls City Beavers for a three-game series at Smokey Joe Williams Field in Seguin. Game one will be played on Friday, May 5 at 7 pm. Game two will be the next day at 1 pm with a potential double-header if a third game is necessary.
