COLUMBUS – The community came out to attend the Colorado County Habitat for Humanity’s Connections Day at the Walnut Street office on Saturday, April 29.

Local nonprofits and youth groups set up booths, games, baked goods, and the community was able to build and take home souvenir Habitat birdhouses.

The Columbus Lions also sold their signature Lions Burgers.

Nonprofits and youth groups were able to take home the proceeds made that day.

Habitat for Humanity said this event originally started with birdhouses, and Saturday was the first time they have included the portion where nonprofits come to the event and keep the funds they have made that day.

In attendance at the event was the Randolph family who is currently have a home built in Alleyton on Canal Street. Members of the family in attendance said they are excited for their home being built.

“It feels great to be out here,” Carvalous Randolph said. “We are happy, very excited and just enjoying the moment.”

Habitat said the house will be in partnership with Carvalous and Natalie Randolph. The home on Canal Street will be the 29th home for the Habitat for Humanity.

Started in 1996, Colorado Habitat has been steadily building simple and sturdy homes for local families, according to a release. Habitat said families are charged zero interest and most of the labor is done by volunteers.

Those interested in supporting nonprofits and youth groups can call Colorado County Habitat for Humanity at 979732-5677.
