Colorado County 4-H’ers had the opportunity to participate in the District 11 Spring Spectacular Contest on Thursday, April 13 and Friday, April 14 in Victoria.
17 4-H’ers from Colorado County competed in four different competitive events over the two days.
Brooke Wanjura competed in the Educational Presentation contest and the Public Speaking Contest. Wanjura’s educational presentation was in Animal Science and she earned first place in the senior division, while earning second place in the senior division with her speech. The 4-H club said Wanjura, placing in each contest, punched her ticket for the state 4-H contest held in June.
Three teams represented Colorado County in the Duds to Dazzle Contest. This contest allows 4-H’ers to work as a team to complete a fashion product by designing, constructing and presenting the finished product using a provided textile, according to a release.
The teams were the Backstitch Girls with Chloe Brandt, Ella Herzik and Emily Wied; Glitter Girls with Hadley Brandt, Lillie Herzik and Kelsey Wied; the Sewing Sisters with Makenzie Goldman, Zoe Schoeneberg and Carlee Seifert.
The Backstitch Girls received fifth place intermediate team, the Sewing Sisters received second place junior team, and the Glitter Girls received third place junior team.
Colorado County 4-H’ers also competed in the Consumer Decision Making Contest. Teams representing Colorado County were junior individual with Caden Koy; intermediate team with Jack Dudensing, Jacob Koy and Emily Wied; senior team with Julie Gobert, Jase Rau, Brooke Wanjura and Kase Weishuhn; senior individual with Colten Koy.
The teams achieved the following: Fifth high point intermediate team, fourth high point intermediate individual – Jack Dudensing, first high point senior team – state bound, fourth high point senior individual – Kase Weishuhn, and tenth high point senior individual – Brooke Wanjura.
The club said the senior team punched their ticket to the State 4-H CDM Contest in June in College Station.
