The Columbus varsity track and field team had a number of performances they can be satisfied with after an impressive performance as a team in the district meet. They came away with several individual medals, and they also claimed the district championship in a couple events. Columbus finished with 13 total medals and even more athletes who qualified to compete in the upcoming Area Championship Meet on April, 19 in Seguin.

The Lady Cards finished several events with area qualifiers as they had top performances in the competition. While they got most of their work done on the track, they found a lot of success in the field events as well. Taylor Morrow led the way by taking silver in the long jump and triple jump competitions. Scarlett McClelland qualified for area by taking fourth in the long jump, and Ja’Leighia Wilsson qualified for area as well with a fourth-place finish in the discus throw.

The track is where the Lady Cards will be well-represented at the Seguin-hosted Area Championship Meet. Chloe Ross and Kaylea Foster continued their strong seasons in the distance races by taking second and third place respectively in the 3200m run. McClelland had a much shorter distance to run to claim her spot in the area meet, taking the silver medal in the 100m sprint, just ahead of fellow Lady Card Kaitlyn Torres. Mc-Clelland took another silver in the 200m dash with another Lady Card, Kloee Woytek, taking the bronze medal in the event. Torres and Woytek along with Mariah Woods and TiYana Celestine claimed the silver medal in the 4X200m relay race. Celestine and Woods ran again with McClelland and Morrow to take fourth in the 4X100m race and claim their place in the Area Championship. Rylee Strieder secured her invitation to Seguin with a third-place finish in the longer-distance hurdles.

While the boys had a fewer number of athletes qualify for area, they also finished with a few district crowns as Ty’Vone Whitehead and Josafat Galvan had top performances in their best events. Whitehead once again proved his ability as a sprinter by claiming the district championship in the 100m sprint. Josafat Galvan took the long way to the gold by finishing first in the long-distance 1600m run. Whitehead also finished as an area qualifier in several other events as well. He finished with bronze in the 200m dash, and took fourth place in the long jump competition to claim his spot for three separate events in Seguin. Elijah Owen took fourth in the 3200m run to move on to the Area Championship meet as well.
