My name is Sandra Dee Flowers, a 1979 RHS Graduate, U.S. Army Veteran, mother of two daughters and grandmother of four.
Prior to retirement my time was spent working with at-risk youth. Through this experience, I quickly learned that no child is exempt from becoming at risk, no matter their background.
Therefore, a system must be in place to address issues that may arise and implement safeguards to identify problems that may occur. Communication is key to implement policies and to hire educators to ensure a strong foundation. Communication should not be limited to the Board of Trustees that determines applicable policies. Communication must involve those in which the policies affect directly; administration, educators, parents of students and the representative from the community they elect to be the voice on their behalf to ensure their voices are being heard.
Although I was unsuccessful last year, I asked myself why I chose to seek office again and the reason has not changed, if anything it has enhanced my desire. I am a believer in education, and I have the utmost respect for educators.
While outspoken at times and not afraid to ask questions that I don’t have the answer to or don’t understand, I am willing to listen and learn, yet I also want to be heard and be part of a team to help move this district forward. I will speak up for everyone in the district if elected.
On Election Day, I am asking for your vote for Rice Consolidated Board of Trustees position 7. I will be a voice not only for my grandchildren, but I will be a voice for all children. Every child, parent, and educator deserves to have someone that will fight for them!
