Hi, my name is Leah Newby, and I am running for Weimar ISD School Board Place 1 Trustee.
My husband, Eric and I became full time residents of Weimar in 2019. I have three children and two stepchildren, three of which attend Weimar ISD. Ashley is a junior, Caleb is a freshman, and Barrett is in kindergarten. I work currently in sales and marketing working daily with analytics, forecasting, and budgets. I have a strong background in sales and negotiations. I am currently serving on the PTO board at Weimar Elementary.
I was born and grew up in Katy, Texas. I have an associate degree from the University of Houston at Victoria and pursued education as my major. While I followed a different career path, I still treasure what I learned pursuing my degree.
I chose to run because we need effective and transparent communications about all district activity. I want to make sure our teachers have the tools they need in the classroom to make our kiddos successful. Coming off some of the hardest few years in education, we need to be supporting and retaining our teachers in every possible way. I want to ensure equitable spending of district dollars on academics, athletics, and fine arts to benefit all students. I want our parents and community to be at the forefront of district decisions, and for us to lock arms to be their voice. I hope to draw people into our amazing community through our school district.
I believe my success as a trustee will be my ability to consider all perspectives, and make decisions that benefit our next generation, our teachers, and our community. Success will also be achieved through collaboration with trustees, teachers, and the community.
