COLUMBUS – The Columbus Walmart, 2103 Milam St., hosted a ribbon cutting and celebration Friday morning, April 7 to unveil new customer-centric features and upgrades made to the store.

The new store features include a Columbus-focused mural and new signage. Walmart said some of the other areas of improvement designed to help elevate the Walmart shopping experience include an open-concept floor plan, updated jewelry counter, upgraded electronics department, expanded wine selection and updated flooring.

Store associates and the community were able to enjoy giveaways from Pepsi and Dr. Pepper. A presentation honoring long-time store associates was also made by Store Manager Montraie Baldwin White.

“One of the things that I really liked about working in Columbus is everyone here is a big family and very genuine,” White said. “I want to give back to Columbus just like our founder of our company, Sam Walton, gave back to the community.”

During the celebration, Walmart presented checks to community organizations, including the Colorado County Habitat for Humanity, Columbus Elementary School PTO, and Columbus Food Pantry.

Monica Heffley from the CES PTO said the donation will go towards playground equipment.

Mayor Lori An Gobert expressed her appreciation of the upgrades made to the store and donations made to local organizations.

“I just want to say, thank you. Thank you [associates] very much for all you’ve done,” Gobert said. “Our community benefits tremendously from Walmart and all that you do,” she said. “The grants that you gave out today means the world to these organizations and it wouldn’t have happened without you all being committed to us and the service of this store, so thank you very much. Thank you for the remodel.”

In addition to debuting the new and improved customer experience for Columbus residents, Walmart is highlighting Walmart+ and the value it provides to the local community.
